In the past few years it has become more and more clear to me that the Republican party is no longer the staunch defender of conservative values, by which it has been known for many years. Albeit, the GOP is not as far left as the Democratic party, it has left those who believe in a two-party system to choose between the proverbial lesser of who evils.
Unfortunately, if we are to abide with this failing system, most Christians and those who still hold the conservative moral foundation on which the United States was founded are left with the hard choice of denying their conscience by voting for either of the back-slidden parties or waiving their God-given right to vote in this country.
However, there is an alternative. If we are to believe that God is sovereign and that He chooses to work out his sovereign will (mostly) through means of men, then why not support a party that, although certainly far from perfect, it is infinitely better-aligned with conservative principles, which in large part are based on Biblical Truth?
This morning, while I was thinking about the Republican party, a party I've supported with straight-ticked votes since I was 18, I became exceedingly disgusted with their continual departure from Truth, particularly by its consistent efforts to become more centrist by supporting limited abortions and intentionally promoting more homosexuals to leadership positions in Washington.
I must digress for a moment. I do not hate homosexuals as people. However, at the same time I am compelled by the Holy Spirit living inside me, and I cannot approve of their chosen lifestyle. The Bible is abundantly clear. Homosexuality is a sin and a gross aberration from God's intended plan. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24) We are to seek the salvation of the lost and minister to our back-slidden brethren.
Today I came to the conclusion that I can no longer support the Republican party with my vote as they are making a clear departure from the moral truths of God. I've heard a lot of good things about the Libertarian party, so I checked out their platform published on their website. I was quite impressed. Since there are already a few Libertarians in office, I consider this a viable party and a real option for those who wish to vote their conscience.
If you haven't already, I encourage you to visit the Libertarian National Committee official website. Their platform is hyper-linked and easy to navigate, in case you want to check a particular issue.
God bless & have a great day! ^_^
