Animal-human hybrids. Fatherless babies. Taking gametes from incapacitated adults without their consent. If these sound like fictional works such as “The Island of Dr. Moreau” or “Brave New World,” think again–all of these proposals, and more, will be unveiled later this week as changes to British health policy. According to the Sunday Telegraph, Britain's Health Ministry should reform embryology laws to scrap most prohibitions, including any consideration of a child's “need for a father.” The changes, supposedly to square the law with the science, allow things most Britons consider abhorrent, including licenses for the creation of animal-human hybrid embryos for experiments. While touted as a way to obtain embryonic stem cells for drug testing and disease research, animal-human hybrids are simply another excuse to practice cloning. But the cells from animal-human hybrids will be virtually worthless for studying disease, because they are hybrids–and allowing creation of these hybrids slides us further down the ethical slope. Sadly, some U.S. scientists point to the British regulatory system as the model for this country.
Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.
And the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the LORD said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
Beloved, I [the Apostle Peter] now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
When He [Jesus] opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel's hand. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake.
So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. The first angel sounded: And hail and fire followed, mingled with blood, and they were thrown to the earth. And a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.Then the second angel sounded: And something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. And a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.
Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened. A third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night.
And I [the Apostle John] looked, and I heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, “Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!”
Now, I realise there is not a 1:1 correlation between making human/animal hybrids and the evil on Earth described in Genesis 6, but I do believe there is principle here that needs to be recognized. The mankind in the day's of Noah had become permeated with evil; the depravity of their souls was bottomless. What are we as a society even doing flirting with the idea of making human/animal hybrids? Not only is it sick, but by application of God's moral (and Levitical Law) it is a forbidden aberration.
For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. For man is not from woman, but woman from man. Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. Nevertheless, neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord. For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God.
Mark my words, if we continue on this path, we will hasten the day of the LORD's judgment.
