For years, Christian movie critic Dr. Ted Baehr has contended that when Academy Award time rolls around, Hollywood either ignores its best movies or gives them token recognition with tributes such as “Best Animation” or “Best Song.” Instead, he says, Tinseltown chooses to exalt movies that contain unacceptable amounts of foul language and immorality. That's why every February his organization, MovieGuide, holds its Annual Awards Gala to recognize films suitable for families.The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just nominated four R-rated movies for best picture. Not one R-rated movie was in the top ten box office winners in 2006. It appears they hope that all the foul language and immorality that turns off audiences can be overcome with the box office magic of an Academy Award nomination.
